Shenango River Watchers Environmental Scholarship
The application deadline for the 2012 scholarship is March 12.
We sponsor an annual scholarship for any high school senior who is a member of or has volunteered with the Shenango River Watchers and/or resides in the Shenango River Watershed, who is entering a four-year college and has shown an interest in preservation of the environment by volunteering his or her time in a community within the Shenango River Watershed of Pa/OH.
Interested students must complete the necessary
application and write
an essay of 500 words or less describing how his or her efforts have
helped the environment. Each applicant must verify that he or she is
dedicated to improving and preserving the environment,

2011 Scholarship Recipient
Our 2011 Scholarship recipient is Patrick Martell. He is a senior at Hickory High School. At Hickory he participated in numerous activities including the Green Team Club (Vice President), Band, Physics Club, Drama Club and was a member of the National Honor Society. He also is on the Track, Cross Country, Wrestling and Bowling Teams.
Not only was Patrick an active participant at school, he continued his involvement in the community by volunteering for the Salvation Army, Prince of Peace, National Wildlife Federation, Penn State Science Olympiad Judge, and mentored a visually impaired Boy Scout to achieve advancements.
He had also accumulated over 100 environmental hours at Buhl Park cleanups, Shenango Trail and Golden Run cleanups, repairing a bridge on the Shenango Trail, and marking trails in Jefferson Twp and Custaloga Town in Cochranton.n
Patrick plans to attend Cedarville University or Olivet Nazarene University and major in Engineering.
