July River Clean Up

On Saturday, July 25th, 12 dedicated volunteers joined the clean up effort that started at Kidds Mill and ended at New Hamburg. The group collected 18 tires, several bags of trash, a pet carrier, a 55 gallon drum, and a buoy belonging to our partners the Army Corps of Engineers that must have escaped from somewhere. Keeping the Shenango River clean is our mission and we’re grateful for the opportunity to be of service and for the volunteers who choose to spend their time with us.

Summer Paddle Fest June 28

Over 140 paddlers joined us for this year’s Paddle Fest. Thanks to our hardworking tree team, the River was cleared for the day, with a few trees being cleared that morning by our advanced team! Folks seemed to really enjoy the 9 mile paddle from Pymatuning to Riverside Park and our two food trucks, Haitian Sensation and The Open Kitchen got rave reviews too. Thanks to all of our volunteers, our safety communications team, and paddlers – the day was a success.

Earth Day ~ Festival & Cleanups

Over two days, April 23rd and April 25th, Shenango River Watchers and 92 volunteers collected 295 bags of trash, 167 tires, several TV’s, large pieces of metal, carpets and a mattress in Wheatland along Ohio St and in Sharpsville along the River from the bridge to the spillway. Thanks to everyone dedicated to our environment and our watershed, including Aqua and National Fuel employees as well as Katie Parr’s class from eAcademy. It was hopeful to see so many children willing to spend a Saturday morning cleaning trash! Shout out to the City of Hermitage for another excellent Earth Day Festival at LindenPointe on Saturday afternoon. The place was packed and we had over 100 youth visit our table to make magnet creatures out of reusable materials (bottle tops). Thanks to all who visited with us!

25th Anniversary Banquet ~ Friday, April 17th

Shenango River Watchers is celebrating 25 years of protecting the Shenango River Watershed in 2026. On Friday, April 17th we celebrated our past and looked to our future. It was a banquet attended by 150 members, volunteers, community businesses and partners, and elected officials.

Eagle Fest ~ January

Thanks to the 800+ folks who showed up to learn about and observe all things Eagles on January 10th at Shenango Lake. We were lucky this year for a warmer morning but had to dodge the raindrops during Tamarack’s raptor program.
